High School Influencers on Career and Technical Education Enrollment
Stacie L. Davis
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Regent University
Career and technical education (CTE) has dramatically changed over the last 50 years. Because of this major shift of understanding in purpose and benefits, the role of the education system is vitally important in raising awareness and reshaping the perception of CTE. This research focused on the influence of high school stakeholders, specifically administrators, counselors, teachers, and other staff on high school students' CTE course enrollment. Additionally, the study explored which high school influencer is most likely to produce CTE concentrators--students most prepared to work in a specific field or industry by obtaining credits or certifications in a concentrated field. The study also identified the most common influencers in a high school building and at what stage the influencer changes in the CTE concentrator process. Suggestions for further research and professional learning regarding CTE and nontraditional education biases were explored.
