Why Females Are Outpacing Males in Higher Education
Najera-Kruth, Elizabeth C.
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Alliant International University
For years past higher education institutions were male dominant in enrollment over females. Current enrollment trends show there is a decline of male completion and females are now showing higher graduation rate completion. Research shows prevailing reasons for students sustaining enrollment and reasons for attrition. An analysis was conducted of emergent themes from 29 participants about the student's first-year higher education experience at a higher education institution. Results of the study showed the reasons why students will sustain enrollment and challenges that may cause attrition. In addition, a percentage of males showed attrition.
