A comparison of the performance of 10 employees using the current version of a Corporate Time Reporting Instruction and a revision prepared using Information Mapping (IM) indicates that subjects committed 54 percent fewer errors when using the IM version. Surveyed managers and employees to assess satisfaction with a performance appraisal system. Factor analyses indicated that employees perceive certain aspects of the appraisal system in a global way, whereas managers differentiate among various components and see them as distinct entities. Direct-observation techniques were used to analyze the occupational skills of both employed and unemployed adults. Results indicated that employed adults performed significantly better than unemployed on each of 13 job-related skills assessed. These differences were found for both job-findings and job-retention skills. (Author)

The Behaviorally Anchored Rating Scale (BARS) technique was employed with 16 dormitory resident assistants (RAs) to develop an RA job description. Results revealed that RA's generally preferred BARS to the existing job description. Procedural refinements and further uses for the BARS job description are discussed. (Author/RC)
