The Child Assessment Scale (CAS), developed to address the need for a standardized child interview in identifying psychological disorders, was administered to 32 outpatients, 18 inpatients, and 37 normal controls. The Helping Relationship Inventory was used to see whether objective improvement in medical student (n=109) communication skills occurred in a relatively brief (nine-hour) small-group course in interviewing.
