Studied the influence of prior treatment history of a mentally retarded child and identity of the treatment mediator on the rating of alternative treatment procedures by 105 graduate education and 53 undergraduate psychology students. This study found that states with low percentages of students identified as learning disabled (LD) used a diagnostic method for determining a severe discrepancy, whereas few states identifying the most students used such a method.
