Compared simplified variations on the Angoff and Bookmark methods for setting cut scores on educational assessments with data from a grade 7 mathematics test (23 panelists in all). Several extensions to the Angoff method of standard setting are described that can accommodate characteristics of performance-based assessment. Possible sources of intrajudge inconsistency in standard setting are reviewed, and approaches are presented to improve the accuracy of rating. Procedures for providing judges with feedback through discussion or computerized communication are discussed. Several methods for determining a passing score on an examination from individual raters' estimates of minimal pass levels were compared through simulation.
