Compared simplified variations on the Angoff and Bookmark methods for setting cut scores on educational assessments with data from a grade 7 mathematics test (23 panelists in all). The three standard-setting approaches described in this special issue are summarized and contrasted: (1) judgmental policy capturing; (2) the extended Angoff method; and (3) the dominant profile method. Procedures for providing judges with feedback through discussion or computerized communication are discussed. Several methods for determining a passing score on an examination from individual raters' estimates of minimal pass levels were compared through simulation.
