Ranucci, Ernest R. – Mathematics in School, 1973
Different regular-polygon-shaped candles wound with a sheet of paper are cut through obliquely. When the papers are unwound, unique patterns are revealed. Investigation of these patterns leads to the discovery of geometric concepts. (JP)

Maletsky, Evan M. – Mathematics Teacher, 1973
Three worksheets are provided; the aim is to develop skill in visualization of the cube from two-dimensional patterns. (DT)

Mathematics Teaching, 1973
The first article describes students' activities with tiling patterns and tessellations; the second discusses the use of balances and weights as an approach to number concepts. (DT)

DeTemple, Duane; Miedema, Allen – Mathematics Teacher, 1997
Describes activities in which students perform experiments with physical models that they create. Students develop geometric intuition and build a concrete foundation upon which abstract principles can be built. (DDR)

Tracy, Dyanne M., Ed. – School Science and Mathematics, 1994
Presents an introductory lesson on remote sensing and image processing to be used in cooperative groups. Students are asked to solve a problem by gathering information, making inferences, transforming data into other forms, and making and testing hypotheses. Includes four expansions of the lesson and a reproducible student worksheet. (MKR)
