Wainer, Howard – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1976
Estimators which are optimal under assumptions of normality are shown to be vulnerable to the effects of outliers. A survey of robust alternatives is presented. Included are alternatives to the mean, standard deviation, product-moment correlation, t-test, analysis of variance, multivariate techniques, and schemes for outlier detection. (Author/JKS)

Friedrich, Katherine R. – 1991
The recognition that all parametric methods are interrelated, coupled with the notion that structure coefficients are often vital in factor and canonical analyses, suggests that structure coefficients may be important in univariate analysis as well. Using a small, heuristic data set, this paper discusses the importance of structure coefficients…

Walberg, Herbert J. – American Educational Research Journal, 1971
Similarities between regression analysis and analysis of variance are noted and it is argued that the former has advantages over the latter. It is also argued that canonical correlation analysis is more suitable than factor analysis in certain cases. The argument is illustrated with four recent pieces of educational research. (DG)

McDonald, Roderick P. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1979
Two major and two minor principles are shown to serve to generate a large number of multivariate models, including canonical analysis, factor analysis, and latent trait test theory. The statistical underpinnings of the theory are discussed. (Author/JKS)

Black, Doris E., Comp. – 1978
Brief descriptions are provided of general-purpose mathematical and statistical software, including 27 "stand-alone" programs, three subroutine systems, and two nationally recognized statistical packages, which are available in the Air Force Human Resources Laboratory (AFHRL) software library. This index was created to enable researchers…

Porter, Andrew C. – 1971
In this paper problems caused by the existence of errors of measurement are identified for factor analysis, regression analysis, ANOVA, and ANCOVA. At least one detrimental effect is shown to exist for each type of analysis. When a researcher's interest is with infallible variables, he runs the risk of biased results from all of the procedures…

Veldman, Donald J. – 1978
PRIME is a library of 44 batch-oriented computer routines: 20 major package programs, which use 12 statistical utility routines, and 12 other utility routines for input/output and data manipulation. This manual contains a general description of data preparation and coding, standard control cards, input deck arrangement, standard options, and…

Hall, Charles E. – 1971
A set of symbols is presented along with logical operators which represent the possible manipulations of the linear model. The use of these symbols and operators is to simplify the representation of analysis of variance models, correlation models and factor analysis models. (Author)

Ewert, Alan; Sibthorp, Jim – Journal of Experiential Education, 2000
Multivariate analytic techniques offer useful research methods that permit the experiential educator to test theoretical models, analyze the effects of several variables acting together, and predict the effects of one set of variables upon another set of variables. Several of these techniques are discussed, including analysis of variance, multiple…

Cherukupalle, Nirmala devi – 1970
This bibliography contains works that illustrate and apply multivariate statistical methods in the analysis of empirical data in the field of urban and regional planning. The bibliography has been designed for use by planning students and the professional planner. The first section of the bibliography lists some elementary and intermediate level…

Speed, Noel Eric – 1979
The major purposes of this study were (1) to determine the congruence between perceived actual and desired frequency and extent of participation by teachers in the decision-making process; (2) to relate decision participation to teachers' job satisfaction; (3) to relate selected personal and situational variables to decisional participation; and…

Longo, Rose Mary Juliano – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1990
Data collected in the Federal District of Brazil were analyzed in terms of information transfer through mass media and interpersonal communication and how they influence farmers in the Federal District of Brazil in their decisions to adopt agricultural innovations. (42 references) (EAM)

Kimball, George; And Others – 1985
In an attempt to correlate effective school practices with actual observed student achievement, a survey instrument concerning principal leadership and school climate was distributed to classroom teachers in the Oklahoma City Public Schools. Responses by more than half of the teachers yielded 1,294 usable questionnaires representing all 94 schools…

Merz, William R. – 1976
A number of methods have been used to identify potentially biased items within a test. These methods examine one item at a time and do not deal with the complex interrelationships among items or among items and the potentially biasing elements. The use of multivariate procedures to assess whether or not items are biased and to obtain clues about…

Penfield, Douglas A. – 1972
Thirty-four papers on educational statistics which were presented at the 1971 AERA Conference are summarized. Six major interest areas are covered: (a) general information; (b) non-parametric methods; (c) errors of measurement and correlation techniques; (d) regression theory; (e) univariate and multivariate analysis; (f) factor analysis.
