A study was conducted at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1968 to explore policy and determine major reasons for large numbers of course drops and adds. Findings are reported. The major conclusion is much greater effort must be placed on communication of course information to students. (JT)

An early intervention program at Buffalo State College sought to identify the students who might be considered high risks academically. A faculty member provided them with counseling and advice during a personal interview very early in their first semester and then referred them to the proper assistance. (MLW)

A study showed that the longer students have been at the University of California at Santa Barbara, the more negative their feelings about the available academic advising. Students felt intimidated by faculty, but also that advising services were inadequate. A new system making better use of peer advising is recommended. (MSE)
