The AAUP suggests that inflation, threats of retrenchment, and the prospect of collective bargaining legislation in several states have stimulated a new surge of interest in collective bargaining by college and university faculties. Over the next two years the number of faculty members covered by collective bargaining will increase steadily. (MLW)

This year AAUP's Committee W continued to move forward with efforts to influence legislation and administrative regulations, particularly in such areas as pension benefits, affirmative action, and Title IX. It is the committee's judgment that the general economic crunch in higher education has affected women disproportionately. (MLW)
