Stanford Univ., CA. School Mathematics Study Group. – 1971
This is the second unit in a series of 14 SMSG texts designed to cover mathematical concepts which the general population should know. One chapter of the unit discusses algorithms, flow charts, and computers; the second chapter tackles problem formulation procedures (not actual problem solving) and briefly covers mathematical models. Ford, Janet E.; McLeod, Douglas B. – Two-Year College Mathematics Journal, 1977
In this study, a unit on flow charts was developed and its effectiveness in helping teachers explain some algorithms from arithmetic was determined. Findings showed that constructing flow charts helped students give a more complete list of instructions for an algorithm, but didn't help them give better justifications for algorithms. (DT)
