Wellisch, Hans – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1972
The utilization of all or most of the different possibilities to find prescribed descriptors, identifiers or new index terms in thesauri is aided by using a flow chart which is applicable to most indexing aids--thesauri or subject heading lists. (9 references) (Author)
Descriptors: Flow Charts, Indexing, Information Processing, Subject Index Terms

Iyengar, S. Sitharama; Wen, Tien-Pao – Computers and Education, 1980
Examines various types of link list structures built on top of the traditional random access files for application to a database query technique involving multiple keys, and shows how the technique can improve performance of traditional random access files for the Grants Information System. (Author/CMV)
Descriptors: Databases, Flow Charts, Grants, Information Processing
Ciccone, Donald S.; Brelsford, John W. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1976
Previous research has investigated the effects of interpresentation lag within the context of experimenter-controlled lag values. The present study attempted to explore subject-controlled lag effects on paired-associate learning. (Editor)
Descriptors: Experimental Psychology, Experiments, Flow Charts, Information Processing

Elvin, P. J. – Electronic Library, 1986
Discusses shortcomings of a computer program previously described (Electronic Library, April 1985) to create Keyword Out of Context (KWOC) indexes. Program modifications are described which allow indexers to edit terms as the index is being compiled so term consistency is achieved and language conventions are observed. Examples are presented. (MBR)
Descriptors: Automatic Indexing, Computer Software, Editing, Flow Charts
Shanteau, James – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1974
The purpose of this study is to apply an information-processing approach to risky decision judgments using the theory of information integration (Anderson, 1974; Anderson & Shanteau, 1970). (Author)
Descriptors: Decision Making, Experimental Psychology, Flow Charts, Information Processing
Bellezza, Francis S.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1977
Three experiments were performed to determine if the use of an organizational strategy influenced free-recall performance more than did the degree of semantic elaboration. (Editor)
Descriptors: Codification, Experimental Psychology, Experiments, Flow Charts
Dooling, D. James; Christiaansen, Robert E. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1977
According to Barlett (1932) remembering prose is a constructive process. Meaningful material is stored in memory in schematic form and recall is achieved by a process of reconstruction. Bartlett observed that recall becomes distorted with the passage of time. This research deals with constructive remembering over time in terms that are compatible…
Descriptors: Experimental Psychology, Experiments, Flow Charts, Information Processing
Geiselman, Ralph E.; Bellezza, Francis S. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1977
Rates of overt rehearsal and eye movement were compared to each other, and were also compared as predictors of immediate and delayed recall. Concludes that total looking time was the best predictor of long-term retention and that recall performance following overt rehearsal was different from recall performance following silent study. (Editor/RK)
Descriptors: Experimental Psychology, Eye Movements, Flow Charts, Information Processing

Hayes-Roth, Barbara – Psychological Review, 1977
The knowledge-assembly theory is proposed to explain the acquisition, representation, and processing of knowledge. The theory assumes that both the representation and processing of knowledge change qualitatively as learning progresses. (Editor)
Descriptors: Cognitive Processes, Flow Charts, Information Processing, Knowledge Level

Bauman, Edward; Kolisnyk, Eugene – Journal of Abnormal Psychology, 1976
Assesses the effects of input and output interference on schizophrenic recall. Input interference is the interference resulting from the interpolation of items between presentation and recall of the probed item. Output interference is the interference resulting from the interpolation of responses between the presentation and recall of the probed…
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Flow Charts, Information Processing, Memory
Bird, Charles P. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1976
Three experiments were conducted in an attempt to develop an account of information loss based on the relationships among events occurring at input, during a retention interval, and at output. (Editor)
Descriptors: Codification, Experimental Psychology, Experiments, Flow Charts
Merrill, Paul F. – NSPI Journal, 1980
Describes ways in which algorithms which refer to underlying procedures should be represented in order to improve communication in educational and/or training materials. Representations of linear procedures, decision rule procedures, and complex procedures are provided. (MER)
Descriptors: Algorithms, Bibliographies, Decision Making Skills, Flow Charts

Banks, William P.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1976
When shown a pair of digits and asked to select the larger of the two, subjects make their choice more quickly as the numerical difference between the digits increases. Presents and tests a semantic coding model that can explain this and all previous results. (Editor)
Descriptors: Experimental Psychology, Flow Charts, Information Processing, Models
Wetzel, C. Douglas; Hunt, Richard E. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1977
The role of differential rehearsal opportunity in the free recall of remember- (R) and forget- (F) cued words was investigated as a function of the method of presentation. (Editor)
Descriptors: Cues, Experimental Psychology, Experiments, Flow Charts

Coles, Michael G. H.; And Others – Journal of Research in Personality, 1975
This study explored the differential effects of a noxious stimulus under two conditions of information concerning the time of occurrence of the stress and two conditions of receiving temporal information. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Flow Charts, Information Processing, Personality Studies, Reaction Time
