Charting the Path to EFL Writing Proficiency: Unleashing Creativity with Flow Charts
Novitas-ROYAL (Research on Youth and Language), v19 n1 p159-171 2025
This research examines how flow charts affect idea development and writing knowledge in first-year students of Jadara University, Jordan, who are English majors. English majors need creative and cognitively organized writing to succeed academically and professionally. To test this, 55 volunteers were randomly allocated to experimental and control groups. The experimental group used flow charts to arrange thoughts before writing, whereas the control group did not. Writing assignments and rubrics examined originality, coherence, and quality. A one-way ANOVA compared the experimental and control group's mean writing scores. Regression analysis was used to analyze the association between flow charts (independent variable) and writing quality (dependent variable) while adjusting for age, English ability, and previous writing experience. This research examines how flow charts affect idea development, knowledge construction, and writing skills among Jordanian English majors. The study helps Jadara University English language instructors use visual aids like flow charts to improve writing and creativity. The findings add to the knowledge of writing training and may help Jordanian English majors improve their writing and academic performance.
