Performed a follow-up of a sample of children (N=24) to determine whether the McCarthy Scales administered during kindergarten is predictive of subsequent achievement test performance and predictive of course grades during the sixth grade. The McCarthy Scales of Children's Abilities (MSCA) was administered to 80 urban black preschoolers. Five years later, 68 of these children were retested. This investigation demonstrated the predictive validity of the MSCA for urban black children against several criterion measures, including scores on elementary school reading tests. (Author/GK)

Scores on Kaufman's (1977) McCarthy short form and the McCarthy Screening Test (1978) were obtained for first graders (N=53). As follow-up nine months later, the Metropolitan Achievement Test was administered. Results showed Kaufman's short form scores usually indicated a smaller number of false negatives than did McCarthy Screening Test scores.…
