Huang, Hung-Yu; Wang, Wen-Chung; Chen, Po-Hsi; Su, Chi-Ming – Applied Psychological Measurement, 2013
Many latent traits in the human sciences have a hierarchical structure. This study aimed to develop a new class of higher order item response theory models for hierarchical latent traits that are flexible in accommodating both dichotomous and polytomous items, to estimate both item and person parameters jointly, to allow users to specify…

Kreiner, Svend – Applied Psychological Measurement, 2011
To rule out the need for a two-parameter item response theory (IRT) model during item analysis by Rasch models, it is important to check the Rasch model's assumption that all items have the same item discrimination. Biserial and polyserial correlation coefficients measuring the association between items and restscores are often used in an informal…

Ip, Edward H.; Smits, Dirk J. M.; De Boeck, Paul – Applied Psychological Measurement, 2009
The article proposes a family of item-response models that allow the separate and independent specification of three orthogonal components: item attribute, person covariate, and local item dependence. Special interest lies in extending the linear logistic test model, which is commonly used to measure item attributes, to tests with embedded item…

Ben-Simon, Anat; Budescu, David V.; Nevo, Baruch – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1997
Tested methods designed to extract information about examinees' partial knowledge when taking multiple-choice tests. Applied seven testing methods to multiple-choice tests and analyzed results according to six criteria. Results with 2,989 Israeli college applicants show a tendency on the part of examinees to take advantage of the special methods.…

Wang, Wen-Chung; Su, Ya-Hui – Applied Psychological Measurement, 2004
Eight independent variables (differential item functioning [DIF] detection method, purification procedure, item response model, mean latent trait difference between groups, test length, DIF pattern, magnitude of DIF, and percentage of DIF items) were manipulated, and two dependent variables (Type I error and power) were assessed through…

Beller, Michael – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1990
Geometric approaches to representing interrelations among tests and items are compared with an additive tree model (ATM), using 2,644 examinees and 2 other data sets. The ATM's close fit to the data and its coherence of presentation indicate that it is the best means of representing tests and items. (TJH)

van den Bergh, Huub – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1990
In this study, 590 third graders from 12 Dutch schools took 32 tests indicating 16 semantic Structure-of-Intellect (SI) abilities and 1 of 4 reading comprehension tests, involving either multiple-choice or open-ended items. Results indicate that item type for reading comprehension is congeneric with respect to SI abilities measured. (TJH)
