Toland, Michael D.; Li, Caihong; Kodet, Jonathan; Reese, Robert J. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2021
We assessed the psychometric properties of the visual analog scale (VAS) form of the Outcome Rating Scale (ORS) using item response theory (IRT) with a sample of 2,109 Canadian counseling clients. Findings indicate that the ORS was unidimensional and that the equal-interval assumption was not tenable for the VAS.

The purpose of the current study is to validate the Counseling Competencies Scale Revised (CCS-R). We used convenience sampling to recruit counselors and counselors-in-training (N = 156). Specifically, we had 130 female (83.3%) and 26 male (16.7%) participants, and the mean age was 33.16 (SD = 11.18), ranging from 20 to 62 years old. We used…

Xavier, Ana; Cunha, Marina; Pinto-Gouveia, José – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2019
This article aims to adapt and validate the Risk-Taking and Self-Harm Inventory for Adolescents (RTSHIA) in Portuguese. Results confirm the 2-factor structure originally proposed (risk-taking and self-harm). Both dimensions presented an adequate internal reliability and temporal stability. Convergent validity and sociodemographic differences are…

Cooke, Dawson; Marais, Ida; Cavanagh, Robert; Kendall, Garth; Priddis, Lynn – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2015
The psychometric properties of the General Functioning subscale of the McMaster Family Assessment Device were examined using the Rasch Model (N = 237 couples). Mothers' and fathers' ratings of the General Functioning subscale of the McMaster Family Assessment Device are recommended, provided these are analyzed separately. More than a quarter of…

The present study was the first to examine the psychometric properties of the Korean version of the Behavior Assessment System for Children-2, Self-Report of Personality, College Version (K-BASC-2 SRP-COL), among a Korean national sample. Using 1,000 Korean college students, ages 18 to 25 years, we found support for the reliability (via internal…

Wu, Pei-Chen; Huang, Tsai-Wei – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2010
This study was to apply the mixed Rasch model to investigate person heterogeneity of Beck Depression Inventory-II-Chinese version (BDI-II-C) and its effects on dimensionality and construct validity. Person heterogeneity was reflected by two latent classes that differ qualitatively. Additionally, person heterogeneity adversely affected the…

Mji, A.; Onwuegbuzie, Anthony J. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2004
R. J. Cruise and E. M. Wilkins's (1980) Statistical Anxiety Rating Scale (STARS), which measures levels of statistics anxiety, was administered to 169 technikon students (70.9% women) in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Evidence of score reliability and validity was provided, suggesting that the STARS can be used with this population.
