Buchholz, Janine – OECD Publishing, 2022
Many students view PISA as a low-stakes assessment. Their lack of willingness to give the assessment "their all" is reflected in students' performance. Boys are often disengaged, resulting in low test performance. Disengagement should be measured in various different ways to better understand it and improve assessment design.

This study analysed the effects of the nonverbal behaviour of an examiner on low and high achievers' psychometric performances. The examiner, who was blind to children's achievement level, varied the nonverbal style she adopted when giving instructions. As expected, a warm style led children to score higher than a neutral one. Moreover, warmth…

Blote, Anke W. – Learning and Instruction, 1995
Student and teacher perceptions of differential teacher behavior toward good and not-so-good students were studied for 529 Dutch elementary school students. Nurmi, Jari-Erik; And Others – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1995
Two studies with a total of 153 junior and senior high-school students and vocational students in Finland investigated whether underachievers applied a self-handicapping or learned-helplessness strategy in achievement contexts. Underachievers seemed to apply a self-handicapping strategy rather than a learned-helplessness approach. (SLD)
