Kordaki, Maria; Balomenou, Athanasia – International Journal of Computers for Mathematical Learning, 2006
This study focuses on the constructions in terms of area and perimeter in equivalent triangles developed by students aged 12-15 years-old, using the tools provided by Cabri-Geometry II [Labore (1990). "Cabri-Geometry (software)," Universite de Grenoble]. Twenty-five students participated in a learning experiment where they were asked to construct:…

Mathematics Teacher, 1992
Two trigonometry problems are presented. The first compares the graphs of the functions arcsin[sin(x)], arccos[cos(x)], and the identity function f(x)=x. The second, using the law of cosines, demonstrates that the solution of a triangle knowing two sides and the excluded angle is no longer ambiguous. (MDH)

Clason, Robert G. – Journal of Computers in Mathematics and Science Teaching, 1991
A mult tile is a set of polygons each of which can be dissected into smaller polygons similar to the original set of polygons. Using a recursive LOGO method that requires solutions to various geometry and trigonometry problems, dissections of mult tiles are carried out repeatedly to produce tile patterns. (MDH)

Dennis, J. Richard – 1976
Exercises for high school students are presented which entail designing computer programs to enable the computer to identify a geometrical figure as a specific type of triangle or quadrilateral, given its 2-dimensional coordinates. Computer programming skills required are not sophisticated, but a solution requires careful analysis of necessary and…

McLeay, Heather; Abas, Jan – Mathematics in School, 1991
Described are some classroom experiences teaching the concept of symmetry by having students create frieze patterns using the computer software "mosaic." Examples produced by 14-year-old students are presented, and student thinking in developing the friezes is discussed. (MDH)

Schumann, Heinz – Journal of Computers in Mathematics and Science Teaching, 1991
Described and evaluated are microcomputers as a tool for construction in geometry education and heuristic theorem finding through interactive continuous variation of geometric configurations. Numerous examples of theorem finding processes are provided using the prototype graphics system CABRI-Geometer. (MDH)

Battista, Michael T; Clements, Douglas H. – Arithmetic Teacher, 1991
Presents a discussion illustrating student reasoning while using LOGO to draw tilted squares and rectangles. Suggests that teachers recognize that many students use visual imagery to reason and discuss visual reasoning with students. Gives examples of tasks to promote discussion. (MDH)

Geddes, Dorothy – 1992
The 1989 document, "Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics" (the "Standards"), provides a vision and a framework for revising and strengthening the K-12 mathematics curriculum in North American schools and for evaluating both the mathematics curriculum and students' progress. This book, one in a series…
