Bednar, Michael; And Others – Journal of Architectural Education, 1977
A joint project between the separate divisions of planning and architecture at the UVA School of Architecture was conducted to allow graduate students to study the environmental needs of the elderly. The case-study approach was undertaken in Lynchburg, Virginia, and the year-long project was seen as a "real World" problem. (LBH)

Koncelik, Joseph – Journal of Architectural Education, 1977
A course on design for aging populations, developed at Ohio State University, is described. Student-team projects included designs for an upgraded signage system for apartment dwellers, outdoor furniture, and recreational area in a nursing home. (LBH)

Osterberg, Arvid – Journal of Architectural Education, 1977
The approach described is used at the University of Michigan at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in architecture to implement teaching materials regarding designing for the elderly. It uses lecture series, experiential field exercises, direct input to designer studios, and elective courses on the elderly. (LBH)

Howell, Sandra C. – Journal of Architectural Education, 1977
MIT research work has expanded into the design studio setting as a result of the Curriculum Project of the Gerontological Society. A classification method for screening the literature on design needs for the elderly and a set of daily-life scenarios help in current design education. (LBH)
Descriptors: Age, Architectural Barriers, Architectural Education, Classification
Hershberger, Robert G.; And Others – Journal of Architectural Education, 1977
Working on an eight-week design problem for a Senior Center in Phoenix, 52 environmental planning students participated in a Gerontological Society-sponsored project to introduce aging content and assess the usefulness to designers of various sources of information. (LBH)

Environments and Aging. Concepts and Issues in the Design Process: Impact of the Educational Context
Weisman, Gerald; And Others – Journal of Architectural Education, 1977
This study at Kansas State University explored how the different educational contexts provided by two alternate design studio structures might influence students' ultilization of environment/aging research. (LBH)
Descriptors: Adjustment (to Environment), Age, Architectural Barriers, Architectural Education
McRae, John – Journal of Architectural Education, 1977
The source book, "Environments and Aging: Concepts and Issues," was field tested at the University of Florida College in a project for architectural students. Results indicated that it lacks clarity and interpretive graphics, and that students generally did not utilize information from any readings as effective inputs into their design…

Regnier, Victor A. – Journal of Architectural Education, 1977
The major goal of this one-year study at the USC Andrus Gerontology Center was to examine different ways in which an existing social and health service system could be reorganized to make services more responsible and accessible to older residents. (LBH)
