Moore, Randy – Bioscene, 2001
Makes the case that, contrary to popular belief, Mendel's famous paper about plant breeding announced no major findings. Reports on the paper's rediscovery as a result of a priority dispute between de Vries and Correns. (Author/MM)
Descriptors: Biology, Botany, Genetics, Heredity
Allain, P.; Verny, C.; Aubin, G.; Pinon, K.; Bonneau, D.; Dubas, F.; Gall, D.L. – Brain and Cognition, 2005
The purpose of this study was to examine executive functioning in patients with Huntington's disease using an arithmetic word-problem-solving task including eight solvable problems of increasing complexity and four aberrant problems. Ten patients with Huntington's disease and 12 normal control subjects matched by age and education were tested.…

Horney, Mark A.; Anderson-Inman, Lynne; Terra, Fatima – Journal of Special Education Technology, 2009
This study investigated the effects of text notes and voice notes on the comprehension of science texts by fifth grade students. The study was conducted to determine whether digital note taking was an effective reading strategy, and whether one form of digital note taking was more effective than the other. Results revealed that general education…

Rosenfeld, Albert – Saturday Review (New York 1975), 1975
Human gene-changing research, once confined to sci-fi films, is now a burning public issue. (Editor)
Descriptors: Biological Sciences, Ethics, Heredity, Scientific Enterprise
Ayala, Francisco J. – Scientific American, 1978
Describes the rapid advance of molecular genetics over the past 20 years that have accounted for the origin of mutations. This research has revealed that variation within species is much greater than Darwin postulated. (Author/MA)
Descriptors: Biochemistry, Biology, Evolution, Genetics
Valentine, James W. – Scientific American, 1978
Traces the evolution of unicellular organisms to the multi-cellular plants and animals in existence today. Major events are depicted in a geologic timetable. Organisms, extinct and recent, are classified by taxonomic group. (MA)
Descriptors: Biology, Botany, Evolution, Heredity

Sundet, Jon Martin; And Others – Intelligence, 1988
Intelligence test data collected in 1931 through 1960 on 757 identical and 1,093 fraternal male twins, from the files of the Norwegian Armed Forces, were examined for secular trends in the heritability of intelligence test scores. Only ambiguous evidence of such trends was found. (SLD)
Descriptors: Genetics, Heredity, Intelligence, Intelligence Tests

De Blacquiere-Clarkson, John – School Science Review, 1976
Presents a perspective on evolution which includes an explanation of the textbook theory of evolution, a review of evolutionary theory before Darwin, and an outline of Darwin's early theories. Describes a rethinking of evolutionary theory to include natural selection, conservative selection, discontinous evolution, catastrophism, and the…
Descriptors: Biological Influences, Biology, Evolution, Genetics

Ginsburg, Benson E. – Merrill-Palmer Quarterly of Behavior and Development, 1971
Paper presented at the Merrill-Palmer Conference on Research and Teaching of Infant Development, February 13-15, 1970. (JE)
Descriptors: Behavior Development, Environmental Influences, Genetics, Heredity

Hoagland, Roger L.; Skavaril, Russell V. – Journal of Heredity, 1972
The use of a computer program to provide a simulated genetics laboratory for students in an introductory course in genetics is described. (Author)
Descriptors: Computer Assisted Instruction, Genetics, Heredity, Higher Education

Horvath, Cary Wecht – Communication Quarterly, 1995
Compares identical and fraternal twins to determine if communicator style is inherited. Finds predictable relationships between Temperament and Communicator Style, with identical twins' scores more closely related than fraternal twins' scores on nearly every variable studied. (SR)
Descriptors: Communication Research, Heredity, Higher Education, Interpersonal Communication

Raine, Adrian; Dunkin, Jennifer J. – Journal of Counseling and Development, 1990
Argues that an understanding of the genetic and psychophysiological basis of crime and antisocial behavior has important implications for counselors dealing with antisocial behavior. Contends that psychophysiological factors interact with social factors in producing antisocial behaviors. (Author/ABL)
Descriptors: Antisocial Behavior, Counseling, Crime, Criminals

DeLong, G. Robert; Dwyer, Judith T. – Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 1988
To assess the possible role of familial psychopathology in the etiology of infantile autism, family histories and neurological status of 51 autistic subjects subgrouped by level of language function were evaluated. Among findings was a high incidence of Asperger's Syndrome in family members of high functioning autistic subjects. (Author/DB)
Descriptors: Asperger Syndrome, Autism, Etiology, Family Characteristics

Turnpenny, Peter – Adoption & Fostering, 1995
Advances in genetic science are discussed in relation to the advantages and disadvantages of the genetic testing of children and subsequent implications for the adoption process. (SW)
Descriptors: Adopted Children, Adoption, Bioethics, Children

Robinson, JoAnn L.; And Others – Developmental Psychology, 1992
Behaviors of monozygotic and dizygotic twins that were indicative of wariness were observed when the twins were 14, 20, and 24 months of age. An index of inhibition constructed from observations showed internal consistency at all ages and stability across ages. Heritability was a factor at all ages. (BC)
