The purpose of the research was to ascertain the effectiveness of academic aptitude measures, measures of school motivation, and life history factors as predictors of the accomplishments of high school seniors, attained outside their formal programs of study, measured by responses to the Talented Accomplishments Questionnaire. Examined the athletic expectations of high school male athletes (N=386). Results showed that 36 percent of the Black starters and 14 percent of the White starters expected to become professional athletes, although other data indicate only 2 percent will succeed. Race and coaches' encouragement were significant predictors. (JAC)

A social psychology of problem behavior was employed in a longitudinal study of high school youth to predict time of onset of marijuana use. Nineteen personality, perceived environment, and behavioral variables among nonusers of marijuana were shown to account for a significant amount of the variance in time of onset of use. (Author)

Using Super's Career Pattern Study data, this study investigated the high-school age correlates of occupational stability and change among 148 men between the ages of 25 to 35. Only high-school grades were positively, though weakly, associated with both occupational stability and the degree of vocational progress. (Author)
