Results from this study showed that external subjects provided with counseling and systematic desensitization felt that they retained too much control of therapy, while internals generally indicated an optional amount of control in counseling. (Author)

Using Rotter's (1966) I-E scale, data were gathered on 204 college students. The findings not only contradict the sterotype that Mexican-Americans are fatalistic and controlled by external forces but they seem to suggest that their culture actually contributes to a greater perception of internal control. Correlations between Rotter's Internal-External (I-E) Control of Reinforcement Scale and the Omnibus Personality Inventory (OPI) were predicted based on previous research and a theoretical expectation of a relationship between I-E and adjustment. These findings have implications for counseling and further research using the I-E variable. (Author)

The present research was an attempt to examine the role of task-specific self-esteem and locus of control in the differential prediction of academic performance, program satisfaction, and personal life satisfaction.
