Pavlick, Frank M. – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1975
The use of stored programs for solving statistical problems was introduced into a statistics course. Contrary to expectation the students did not enjoy the course more. They did become more aware of the importance of statistics, however. (SD)
Descriptors: Attitudes, Computer Oriented Programs, Computers, Curriculum

Abas, S. – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1976
The present mode of computer usage, with its emphasis on numerical problem solving, in typical undergraduate mathematics courses is questioned. The role of the computer in developing an awareness of shape and pattern is emphasized. (DT)
Descriptors: College Mathematics, Computer Oriented Programs, Computers, Curriculum

Sharp, R. W. – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1974
The author argues that programs to prepare the casual computer user are needed. Too much emphasis has been placed on thorough understanding of the working of the machine, and not enough on general principles of man-machine interaction. (SD)

Descriptors: Architectural Education, Computer Oriented Programs, Computers, Design

Hooper, Richard – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1976
This article discusses the pros and cons of CAI (computer assisted instruction) as compared to "computer as laboratory" (simulation, modelling, problem-solving, calculation, data bases). (DT)
Descriptors: Computer Assisted Instruction, Computer Oriented Programs, Elementary Secondary Education, Higher Education

Vansteenkiste, G. C. – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1975
Descriptors: Computer Oriented Programs, Computers, Design, Higher Education

Hebenstreit, J. – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1974
The role of computer science in relation to education is discussed from two points of view: (1) the use of computer models for studying the learning process, and (2) the use of the computer as a teaching device. (SD)
Descriptors: Computer Oriented Programs, Computers, Educational Objectives, Educational Technology

Jackson, M.; Smith, B. – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1974
Descriptors: Computer Oriented Programs, Computers, Games, Higher Education

Duchastel, Philippe C. – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1974
A course in statistics for social science majors was redesigned around computer use with the expectation of increasing mastery of course objectives. (SD)
Descriptors: College Mathematics, Computer Oriented Programs, Computers, Evaluation

Bradshaw, W. T. – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1974
Descriptors: Architectural Education, Computer Graphics, Computer Oriented Programs, Computers

Harding, R. D. – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1976
The Computer Aided Teaching of Applied Mathematics Project at Cambridge University is briefly described, and evaluation and development of the project are discussed. (DT)
Descriptors: College Mathematics, Computer Oriented Programs, Curriculum, Curriculum Development

Kass, G. V.; Wilson, D. B. – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1979
An elementary computer programing language designed to help the student resolve very basic and specific conceptual difficulties is described. The introduction and implementation of this language in an actual didactic situation is included. (Author/MK)
Descriptors: Computer Oriented Programs, Computer Programs, Computer Science Education, Higher Education

Wiechers, G. – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1974
The author argues that teaching students to program a computer enhances their logical reasoning, problem solving skills, understanding of models, and ability to examine one's work critically. (SD)
Descriptors: College Mathematics, Computer Oriented Programs, Computers, Higher Education

Abelson, Harold – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1976
Arguing that computers can be used to improve not only the delivery of undergraduate mathematics courses, but also their content, the author discusses several broad areas in which computers might improve the undergraduate curriculum. (SD)
Descriptors: College Mathematics, Computer Oriented Programs, Computers, Course Content

Bishop, W. – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1976
The merits of having students interact with the computer rather than use canned programs to solve problems are discussed. Examples are provided. (SD)
Descriptors: Algorithms, College Mathematics, Computer Oriented Programs, Higher Education
