Archer, Elizabeth – Perspectives in Education, 2023
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to rapid change, unprecedented in higher education. One such change has been the almost complete shift to online assessment. The simultaneous employment of online assessment and proctoring has not enjoyed the rigorous academic debate and research traditionally associated with such shifts in academia. This engagement…

Plante, Thomas G. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1982
Utilizing 182 subjects, this study determined the concurrent validity between the Activity Vector Analysis (AVA) index of anxiety and scores on the IPAT Anxiety Scale. The IPAT and the AVA index of anxiety seem essentially to measure the same construct of basic anxiety. (Author/PN)
Descriptors: Aggression, Anxiety, Higher Education, Personality Assessment

Plake, Barbara S.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
The concurrent and predictive validity of the Achievement Anxiety Test (AAT) were investigated. The evidence gives cause to be concerned about the quality of a difference score because of the nonindependence of the two scores. Further, the underlying structure of the instrument appears to be more complex than originally hypothesized. (Author/GK)

Kumar, Geetha; Steer, Robert A. – Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior, 1995
Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation (BSI) was administered to 121 adolescent inpatients. Twelve characteristics found to be associated with adolescent suicide ideation were entered into multiple regression to estimate BSI scores, along with Beck inventories for anxiety, depression (BDI), and hopelessness (BHS), and Youth Self Report. BHS and BDI were…

Deffenbacher, Jerry L.; Deitz, Sheila R. – Psychology in the Schools, 1978
Test performance and reported anxiety levels of high and low test-anxious subjects taking either a regular exam or an exam containing brief, written relaxation instructions were compared. High test-anxious subjects performed more poorly and reported greater worry and emotionality. Results provide greater external validity for Test Anxiety Scale.…

Brush, Lorelei R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
The reliability and validity of the Mathematics Anxiety Rating Scale was investigated on two samples of undergraduates. The results support the reliability and validity of the instrument. (JKS)
Descriptors: Anxiety, Higher Education, Majors (Students), Mathematics

Lustman, Patrick J.; And Others – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1984
Describes the three-phase development of the Psychological Distress Inventory (PDI), an instrument designed primarily to measure life stress in college students. Standard psychometric information is presented, including reliability, validity, and some effects of response set. The PDI allows users to separately assess degree of depression, anxiety,…

Stiver, Rachel – 1989
The purpose of this bibliography is to give coaches a better understanding of what determines competitive stress in athletes and of how this anxiety relates to performance. Research and studies pertaining to factors related to pregame and postgame competitive stress were investigated as well as the validity and reliability of tests used to measure…

Mayton, Daniel M., II – Psychology: A Journal of Human Behavior, 1988
Subjected Modified World Affairs Questionnaire (MWAQ) to comparable common factor analysis which identified five factors: civil defense, escalation, nuclear war outcome, probability/worry, and patriotic. Alpha coefficients and test-retest reliability were determined to be adequate for the first four subscales. Acceptable discriminant validity and…

McCroskey, James C.; And Others – Communication Quarterly, 1985
Findings strongly support the content validity of the 24 items included in the instrument to measure communication apprehension. (PD)
Descriptors: Anxiety, Assertiveness, College Students, Communication Apprehension
Hartman, Bruce W.; Fuqua, Dale R. – Vocational Guidance Quarterly, 1982
Identified criterion variables known to be related to educational-vocational indecision. Determined if unique relationships existed between factor structure on the Career Decision Scale (CDS) adapted for graduate students and the criterion variables. Results suggested that factor scores of the CDS measure essentially equivalent components of…

Sherwood, Robert D.; Westerback, Mary E. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1983
Determined the validity of using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-Y) with preservice elementary teachers (N=103). Factor analysis results, along with high-interval consistency levels, support use of the instrument (previously used with Air Force recruits) with preservice elementary teachers. (JN)
Descriptors: Anxiety, Elementary School Teachers, Factor Analysis, Higher Education

Dodez, Orin; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1982
Examined the relationship between anxiety and self-actualization in a sample of college students. Items (N=33) from the Personal Orientation Inventory were found to measure anxiety and scored negatively for self-actualization. Removal of anxiety items and rescoring yielded self-actualization measures related postively to anxiety test scores.…
