Mishler, Carol; And Others – College and University, 1982
A study of transcripts of adult students and younger counterparts to examine patterns of credit load, stopping out, and the flow from special student status to matriculant is presented. Results support earlier findings about academic achievement, and presents new evidence that adult students' pace is generally brisker than previously assumed. (MSE)

Guppy, Neil; Pendakur, Krishna – Canadian Journal of Higher Education, 1989
Data from 1974-75 and 1983-84 Canadian national studies are used to explore the impact of gender and parental education on student decisions to enroll full- or part-time, choose college or university, and enroll in different fields. Results show both factors play decisive roles, with family background influencing men and women differentially. (MSE)

Overell, Anne – Teaching at a Distance, 1984
A 1982 study comparing the Open University with 27 other institutions providing part-time bachelors degree programs in two regions of Yorkshire revealed that although the Open University has some aspects that students might find preferable, there are many areas in which other institutions are competitive.
