Two randomized trials were conducted to determine (1) whether the use of the algorithm system has a measurable effect on the clinical problem-solving behavior of physician's assistants, and (2) if so, which components of the algorithm system account for the effect. The extent to which adolescents diagnosed with one or more personality disorders through the Personality Diagnostic Questionnaire-Revised were at an elevated risk of substance abuse was studied with 441 undergraduates. Those with one or more personality disorders showed higher levels of psychiatric symptomatology and substance use. (SLD)
