Unterhalter, Elaine – London Review of Education, 2009
Global social justice is often portrayed as a project of either developing appropriate dispositions or of amending the rules that govern global interaction. Despite policy pronouncements by many university vice chancellors on the significance of higher education in contributing to learning about global social justice, there is very little…

O'Dell, Jerry W.; Dickson, James – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Allowed undergraduate students (N=70) to interact for 44 minutes with ELIZA, a computer simulation of psychotherapy, and compared their responses during the first and second halves of the session. Results showed a significant increase in responses in roughly half of the categories. (LLL)
Descriptors: College Students, Computer Simulation, Counseling Effectiveness, Higher Education
Hinze, Kenneth E. – Collegiate Microcomputer, 1984
Describes instructional use of a microcomputer version of the WORLD2 global population-ecology simulation. Reactions of students and instructors are discussed and a WORLD2 simulation assignment is appended. The BASIC version used by the author runs on Apple II, DOS 3.3, with 80 column board. (MBR)

Boyce, B. Ann – Journal of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, 1988
Use of a computerized simulation entitled "A Simulation of the First Year Teaching" by students in a teaching procedures class in physical education is described. (MT)
Descriptors: Computer Assisted Instruction, Computer Simulation, Higher Education, Online Systems

Moser, Louise E. – Computers and Education, 1983
Describes a package of computer programs developed to implement an oil exploration game that gives undergraduate students practical experience in applying theoretical principles of petroleum geology. The programs facilitate management of the game by the instructor and enhance the learning experience. (Author/MBR)
Descriptors: Computer Assisted Instruction, Computer Programs, Computer Simulation, Educational Games

Croy, Marvin J.; And Others – Journal of Educational Computing Research, 1995
Compares results of giving undergraduate students actual instructor feedback, computer-simulated instructor feedback, or no feedback. There were advantages to giving actual instructor-supplied feedback for exam performance, in-class responsiveness, and attitudes toward the instructor and other students. (JMV)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Comparative Analysis, Computer Simulation, Conventional Instruction

Thomas, Rex A.; Upah, Sylvester C., Jr. – Journal of Research on Computing in Education, 1996
A study of college students revealed weaknesses in learning strategies and metacognitive skills. The students' experience using LOOPS simulation software to create program loops suggests that computer programming coursework may have substantial value for non-majors. (LRW)

Heim, Michael – TECHNOS, 1998
Contemporary culture exhibits an increasingly polarized spectrum of attitudes toward virtualization: those who want photorealism and those who seek sheer fantasy. This author describes "Virtual Realism," his strategy for balancing the two social forces. His students at California's Art Center College of Design are putting it to the test.…

Maynes, Bill; And Others – Educational Administration Quarterly, 1996
For over a decade, the University of Alberta's Educational Policy Studies Department has been developing and using computer-based simulations of the principalship. The program successfully invites students to suspend disbelief and engage in the simulations (interruptions, investigations, and walking tours) as though they were real work. Recent…

Smith, Stanley G.; And Others – Journal of Computer-Based Instruction, 1986
Discusses production and evaluation of interactive computer-assisted videodisc laboratory tutorial simulations for use in prelaboratory instruction and as laboratory experiment replacement in an undergraduate chemistry course. Student performance on laboratory reports and tests was significantly better for students who utilized the simulations.…

Kelsey, Ryan – 2001
This paper presents the results of three years of development and evaluation of a CD-ROM/Web hybrid simulation known as Brownfield Action for an introductory environmental science course at an independent college for women in the northeastern United States. Brownfield Action is a simulation that provides a learning environment for developing the…
