Tractenberg, Rochelle E. – Reading and Writing: An Interdisciplinary Journal, 2001
Presents a test of phonological awareness which does not require that subjects speak or hear to participate. Notes that the test was designed to minimize memory loads, and to measure speeded written naming and segmentation-by-sound. Snowman, Jack; Cunningham Donald J. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1975
Question position effects characteristic of mathemagenic studies were replicated. Identical position effects were demonstrated for reader generated pictures used as adjunct aids. Implications for mathemagenics and prose learning are discussed. (Author)

Masson, Michael E. J.; Miller, Jo Ann – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1983
This study replicated Daneman and Carpenter's finding that the reading span test, as a measure of working memory storage and process functions, is predictive of performance on standard reading comprehension tests. It showed that reading span is related to the ability to draw inferences from, integrate, and encode text information. (Author/PN)

Daneman, Meredyth – Intelligence, 1982
The effectiveness of a measure of the processing capacity of working memory, called the reading span test, is demonstrated in predicting performance and understanding individual differences in reading comprehension. (Author/PN)

Jackson, Mark D.; McClelland, James L. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, 1979
Two groups of undergraduates differing in reading ability were tested on a number of reaction-time tasks designed to determine the speed of encoding visual information at several different levels, tests of sensory functions, verbal and quantitative reasoning ability, short-term auditory memory span, and ability to comprehend spoken text.…
