Friedman, Meredith L.; Dies, Robert R. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1974
Results from this study showed that external subjects provided with counseling and systematic desensitization felt that they retained too much control of therapy, while internals generally indicated an optional amount of control in counseling. (Author)

Seni, Christine L.; And Others – College Student Journal, 1978
Perceptions of study habits were compared for internally oriented subjects who were exposed to effective study techniques and those who were not. Illustrated post-tests for the interactions revealed patterns reflecting upward shifts for subjects exposed to effective study habits. (Author)

Garza, Raymond T.; Ames, Russell E., Jr. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1974
Using Rotter's (1966) I-E scale, data were gathered on 204 college students. The findings not only contradict the sterotype that Mexican-Americans are fatalistic and controlled by external forces but they seem to suggest that their culture actually contributes to a greater perception of internal control. Hicks, Robert A.; Pellegrini, Robert J. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1978
Groups of 15 left-, 15 mixed-, and 39 right-handed college students were tested with J. Rotter's Locus of Control Scale. (Author)

Blechman, Elaine A.; Dannemiller, Eugene A. – Journal of Counsulting and Clinical Psychology, 1976
In a noisy setting, college students (N=40) worked at anagrams and proofreading. Students were assigned to a perceived own control or no control condition and to a constant or increasing rate of exposure. Those who believed their rapid button-pressing produced the silence improved significantly at proofreading but not at anagrams. (Author)

Loesch, Larry C.; And Others – Counselor Education and Supervision, 1978
This study continues the search for meaningful relationships between counselor trainee characteristics and effectiveness. Self-disclosure, dogmatism, locus of control, Machiavellianism, academic aptitude, and sex of counselor trainees were investigated for relationships to effectiveness during practicum or internship. (Author)

Fielding, Michael F.; Pappas, James P. – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1974
This is an investigation of a college freshman sample of the relationship between the Strong Vocational Interest Blank, Form T399, and the Rotter Internal-External Control of Reinforcement Scale (I-E scale) which measures locus of control of reinforcement. (Author)
Descriptors: Behavior Development, College Students, Comparative Analysis, Higher Education

Ashton, R.; White, K. – Social Behavior and Personality, 1975
Groups of about 35 subjects were given Neutral, Low and High motivating instructions before completing the Shortened Form of Betts' Questionnaire upon Mental Imagery. The results for imaging scores in all seven sensory modalities tapped by this questionnaire indicated that the instructions significantly influenced subjects' responses. (Author)

Bartsch, Karl; Hackett, Gail – Journal of College Student Personnel, 1979
Assessed the effectiveness of an established two-credit course in personal-career decision making. Results indicate that experimental participants altered their locus of control toward internality; that they were considerably more articulate than controls in describing career concepts; and that they had taken more action toward resolving their…

Nowicki, Stephen, Jr.; Duke, Marshall – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1978
Predicted that the specific and generalized expectancies of college student counseling clients would clarify their counseling goals and would be related to length of time spent in counseling as well as to rated positveness of counseling experience. Data confirmed these predictions. (Author/MFD)
Descriptors: Attitudes, Behavior Change, College Students, Control Groups
Wallston, Barbara Strudler; And Others – Journal of Counsulting and Clinical Psychology, 1976
The Health Locus of Control (HLC) Scale is an area-specific measure of expectancies regarding locus of control developed for prediction of health-related behavior. Two experiments show discriminant validity of the HLC in contrast with Rotter's Internal-External Locus of Control Scale. Normative data on the HLC are provided. (Author)

Kachel, Douglas W. – Journal of the NAWDAC, 1979
This investigation suggests that the traditional sex label does not constitute the only conceptualization of the sex variable and that alternative definitions of this variable may be a prerequisite to a better understanding of the relationship between sex and the individual's perceived locus of control. (Author)

Glautz, Oscar – College Student Journal, 1976
Data from black students (n=200) pointed to father-present versus father-absent differences on a four-item index of internal-external control (for males and females equally) and on four measures of political disaffection--three of the four for males alone. Variations in fate control minimized male political differences. Results are discussed.…

Keller, John M.; Pugh, Richard C. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1976
Correlations between Rotter's Internal-External (I-E) Control of Reinforcement Scale and the Omnibus Personality Inventory (OPI) were predicted based on previous research and a theoretical expectation of a relationship between I-E and adjustment. These findings have implications for counseling and further research using the I-E variable. (Author)

Malec, James; And Others – Journal of Counsulting and Clinical Psychology, 1976
The present study hypothesized and found that test-anxious subjects can learn to redirect their attention to the task, and away from the internal stimulation resulting from anxiety. Observation of a model successfully coping with anxiety and subsequent role playing of such behavior produced the desired results. (Author/NG)
