Buchanan, Taylor L.; Lohse, Keith R. – Measurement in Physical Education and Exercise Science, 2016
We surveyed researchers in the health and exercise sciences to explore different areas and magnitudes of bias in researchers' decision making. Participants were presented with scenarios (testing a central hypothesis with p = 0.06 or p = 0.04) in a random order and surveyed about what they would do in each scenario. Participants showed significant…

Babalola, J. B.; Olaiya, Foluke M. – African Higher Education Review, 2013
This paper reviews the perceptions of stakeholders on investment in higher education and economic development in south-west Nigeria. The study was based on the argument that despite the fact that Nigeria celebrates her wealth of human capital and boasts of her educated labour force, there is still widespread ignorance and poverty with no…

Ingels, Steven J.; Glennie, Elizabeth; Lauff, Erich; Wirt, John G. – National Center for Education Statistics, 2012
This report describes patterns of continuity and change over time in four areas of the transition to adulthood among young adults as measured 2 years after their senior year of high school. The four areas are postsecondary enrollment, labor force roles, family formation, and civic engagement through voting or military service. The analysis…

Shaver, James P. – 1980
The implications of data from a review of ten years of the American Educational Research Journal (AERJ) indicating that random sampling is rare and that there is increased use of quasi-experimental designs lacking in random assignment are considered. It is suggested that tests of significance could be abandoned or at least placed in a subsidiary…

Penfield, Douglas A.; Koffler, Stephen L. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1978
Three nonparametric alternatives to the parametric Bartlett test are presented for handling the K-sample equality of variance problem. The two-sample Siegel-Tukey test, Mood test, and Klotz test are extended to the multisample situation by Puri's methods. These K-sample scale tests are illustrated and compared. (Author/GDC)

Eiting, Mindert H.; Mellenbergh, Gideon J. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1980
Using reasonable values for the parameters in both null and alternative hypotheses about covariance matrices, an optimal and feasible combination of number of subjects, significance level, and power of the test were determined for an empirical study of the measurement of musical ability. (Author/BW)

Deal, James E.; Anderson, Edward R. – Journal of Marriage and the Family, 1995
Presentation of quantitative research on the family often suffers from a tendency to interpret findings on a statistical rather than substantive basis. Advocates the use of data analysis that lends itself to an intuitive understanding of the nature of the findings, the strength of the association, and the import of the result. (JPS)

Andrich, David; Kline, Paul – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
The Rasch simple logistic model is used to examine the relative item parameter values of a personality inventory with respect to populations cross-classified by sex and country. While items conform to the model within each of the populations, half the items show significant discrepancies among the populations. (Author/RL)

Greenwood, Larry; McKean, Harlley – Journal of Academic Librarianship, 1985
An ongoing, multiphased project to measure and reduce book loss due to theft was instituted in the main library at the University of Kentucky. Though book loss was significantly reduced, the issue of whether an electronic security system is more effective than a manual checking procedure remains unresolved. (6 references) (EJS)
