Using data from a random sample of currently married adults (N=316), log-linear techniques were used to examine five aspects of household division of labor between husbands and wives as these relate to sex of respondent, labor-force status of the wife, and other independent variables. (Author)

First-married couples (n=1,467) interviewed for the National Survey of Families and Households were studied to evaluate how 2 life-course measures, work history and marital timing, predicted the time each spouse spent doing mundane housework. Compared mothers (n=1,433) and fathers (n=128) in one-parent families on time spent with children and in household work. Found that family work in one-parent households, like family work in two-parent households, is gendered, consistent with theories indicating parenting behavior is gendered. (JBJ)
