Exploring Culture at a School-within-a-School Campus
Jeff Post
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Lamar University - Beaumont
Campus culture continues to be a popular topic of study at both traditional and specialized schools. Leadership behaviors are paramount to any school's success, and teachers at school-within-a-school campuses share that their perceptions of campus leaders and colleagues are significant indicators of overall school health. The literature around these embedded campuses has found that teachers have both positive and negative perceptions of school culture regarding schools-within-schools and other specialized campuses. This study specifically explores teacher perceptions of trust, collaboration, and ownership of campus culture at one Greater Houston school. Findings indicate a need for campus and district leaders to work collaboratively to support teachers in schools-within-schools campuses to dispel role misconceptions, enhance cross-program collaboration, and improve collective ownership for campus culture.
