The alphabetical biographical listings include American Indians prominent in Indian affairs, business, the arts and professions, as well as non-Indians active in Indian affairs, history, art, anthropology, archaeology, etc. These sketches concentrate primarily on professional achievement, excluding the usual personal data, such as name of spouse, date of marriage, and children. Most of the information was culled from research questionnaires completed by the individuals themselves; when unavailable, other reliable published resources are included. When possible, direct quotations have been employed to give an insight into the life and work of each biography. Home and/or business addresses are included when available. Also, the preface to this second volume discusses the history of the encyclopedia and the methods employed in researching and arranging the material. (KM)
