Based on research which has followed the behavioral development of 133 subjects from infancy to early adulthood, discusses incidence of behavior disorders, defines the concept of temperament, and briefly discusses findings. A longitudinal study begun in 1956 on the effect of the child's temperament on his development included 141 children, 136 of whom remained throughout the study.
