This study investigated whether learning with a computer in small group settings would produce higher levels of achievement, attitudes, and prosocial orientation than learning in individualized settings. Observation of the different instructional grouping arrangements used with mildly handicapped students revealed that the different arrangements produced diverse student responses, such as higher participation during individual instruction, compared with entire- and small-group instruction in mainstream or special education classes. Research on varying the instructional locus of control between students and teachers indicates that individually-set goals were attained more often by students than those set by their teachers. Students who set their own goals also had better attitudes and higher evaluations. (CJ)
