There appear to be three reasons why Sino-Vietnamese refugees lag behind ethnic Vietnamese refugees in cultural and economic adaptation: (1) they come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds; (2) they arrived when incentives to prompt adjustment were lessening; and (3) their attitudes and behaviors differ for cultural reasons.
