Theoretical predictions, based on the confluence model, were made for data from six national surveys of intellectual performance, each relating intellectual performance scores to family configuration variables. To correct for measurement error in the correlation of student status with achievement gain, the simplex model was used. Results supported the authors' hypothesis that status and gain are correlated. A general model for a quantitative description of individual growth in learning was developed. Published data in a variety of areas and data on learning sequences in a classroom were processed through the model. Findings suggest that the general growth model governs growth phenomena. (Author/RD)
