Resing, Wilma C. M.; Tunteler, Erika – International Journal of Testing, 2007
In this article, time effects on intelligence test scores have been investigated. In particular, we examined whether the "Flynn effect" is manifest in children from the middle and higher IQ distribution range, measured with a child intelligence test based on information processing principles--the Leiden Diagnostic Test. The test was administered…

Bak, Joseph S.; Greene, Roger L. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1980
Subjects between the ages of 50 and 86 years were given portions of the Halstead-Reitan Neuropsychological Test Battery, the Wechsler Memory Scale, and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale. Younger subjects performed significantly better than older subjects on 10 of the 18 neuropsychological measures used. (Author/BEF)

Russell, Elbert W. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1982
The Revised Wechsler Memory Scale, Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale subtests, and Halstead-Reitan battery were factor analyzed. Five types of memory were isolated: immediate verbal, recent verbal, recent figural, figural learning, and verbal learning storage. Loadings of memory and nonmemory tests indicate a closer relationship between some of…

Holzman, Thomas G.; And Others – 1980
The cognitive determinants of number series completion performance were studied by presenting a systematic set of problems to adults and to children of high and average intelligence, grades 4 and 5. Pearson correlations between these problems and the number series on the Cognitive Abilities Test were .51, .78 and .43 for the average intelligence,…

Jensen, Arthur R.; Inouye, Arlene R. – Intelligence, 1980
Asian-American, White, and Black Children in grades 2-6 were tested for intelligence, achievement, and short-term memory. Factor analysis yielded two main factors: memory and general intelligence. The three groups differed distinctly at every grade level. Achievement correlated more with memory than with general intelligence. (Author/CP)

Perkins, David – 1995
Pychologists, educators, and others have challenged the idea of a fixed IQ. This book uses recent research and earlier discoveries to argue that intelligence is not genetically set. Noting that the idea of learnable intelligence reflects the belief that intelligence can be taught, the book outlines a theory of learnable intelligence, including…

Ong, Jin; Jones, Lowell, Jr. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1982
Rank-difference correlations between Memory-for-Designs test, Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC), and Wide Range Achievement Test scores for two classes of educable mentally retarded children showed high negative correlations between Memory-for-Designs and WISC Full Scale IQs. Visual memory accounted for 84 percent of variance in…

Glaser, Robert; Pellegrino, James W. – Intelligence, 1979
Current studies of cognition emphasize the contrast between two approaches to analysis of individual differences. It is concluded that the cognitive components approach incorporates the cognitive correlates approach, avoids the inadequacy of correlational methods, and models individual differences on various dimensions of cognitive functioning.…

Jensen, Arthur R.; Figueroa, Richard A. – 1975
The study sought to use Jensen's two-level theory of mental abilities to predict some hitherto unknown or unnoticed phenomena--facts about which the theory should yield clear-cut predictions and which are not as clearly predictable from other theories, though they may receive ad hoc explanations after the fact. From the two-level theory of mental…

Vogel, Susan A.; Walsh, Patricia C. – Annals of Dyslexia, 1987
Gender differences in level and pattern of cognitive abilities were examined in 49 learning-disabled college students. Females were stronger in visual-motor abilities and verbal conceptualization, whereas the males' highest abilities were nonverbal visual-spatial. Both groups showed weaknesses in memory for digits and factual knowledge and in…

Shaughnessy, Michael F. – 1985
Recent theorists have begun to re-conceptualize the construct of "intelligence." This paper reviews recent theories of intelligence and indicates implications for practitioners, educators, and individuals. Theories and theorists discussed include the following: (1) Robert Sternberg has advanced the "triarchic theory" of…
