The Modern Language Association conducted a survey of career-oriented, community-related interdisciplinary, and non-traditional foreign language offerings in US colleges and universities. Informal descriptions are given of seven such courses relating to the teaching of literature. (Author/RM)

An interdisciplinary course entitled "A Cultural Introduction to Foreign Languages" offered in 1974-75 at Murray State University is described. The purpose of the course is to orient and lure hesitant students into language study. (RM)

At the German Department of the University of South Carolina, courses of literature in translation and general cultural courses were open to all students of the university to offset low foreign language enrollments.
