Dik, Bryan J.; Hansen, Jo-Ida C. – Journal of Career Assessment, 2008
This article describes the relationship between interests and well-being by conceptualizing interest as both an emotional state and a stable disposition. First, interest is explored as a distinct emotion or affective state, itself a form of well-being that also leads to other forms of well-being by facilitating the development of diverse life…

Hansen, Jo-Ida C.; Leuty, Melanie E. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 2007
The purpose of the current study was to investigate the evidence of validity of the Skill Scale scores on the Campbell Interest and Skill Survey (CISS). In a sample of 221 college students, analyses between the CISS Skill Scale scores and the CISS Interest Scale, the Strong Interest Inventory, and self-reported MAEQ abilities scores were…

An Empirical Test of the Modified C Index and SII, O*NET, and DHOC Occupational Code Classifications
Dik, Bryan J.; Hu, Ryan S. C.; Hansen, Jo-Ida C. – Journal of Career Assessment, 2007
The present study investigated new approaches for assessing Holland's congruence hypothesis by (a) developing and applying four sets of decision rules for assigning Holland codes of varying lengths for purposes of computing Eggerth and Andrew's modified C index; (b) testing the modified C index computed using these four approaches against Brown…

Hansen, Jo-Ida C.; And Others – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1993
Multidimensional scaling was applied to Women-in-General (n=300) and Men-in-General (n=300) samples of the Strong Interest Inventory. Participants were matched on occupational title, obtaining two-dimensional solutions that demonstrated gender differences in the underlying structure of vocational interests. (SK)

Hansen, Jo-Ida C.; Lee, W. Vanessa – Journal of Career Assessment, 2007
The validity of scores on the Strong Interest Inventory (SII) for Asian American college students has not been thoroughly investigated. This study examined the evidence of validity of the SII Occupational Scale scores for predicting college major choices of Asian American women and men and White women and men. The sample included 186 female and…

Hansen, Jo-Ida C. – 1974
The revision of the Strong Vocational Interest Blank (SVIB), the Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory (SCII), introduces Holland's theory of occupational types into the empirical structure of the SVIB. Emphasis on Holland's theory is evident throughout the SCII profile. Empirical coding of occupations was accomplished by: (1) scoring each of the…

Pendergrass, Laura A.; Hansen, Jo-Ida C.; Neuman, Jody L.; Nutter, Kevin J. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2003
This study examined evidence of concurrent validity for the use of scores from the Campbell Interest and Skill Survey (CISS) with college student-athletes. Agreement between declared college major and interest scores on the CISS was calculated for male student-athletes and nonathletes. Difference between samples was nonsignificant. (Contains 22…

Hansen, Jo-Ida C. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1978
Three age groups in six occupational samples were tested on the SCII and their scale scores were examined for significant differences. Data indicates that interests generally are not different for people of different ages in the same occupation. (Author)

Hansen, Jo-Ida C. – Journal of Counseling and Development, 1987
Presents a biography of Edward K. Strong, Jr. (1884-1963), the first author of the Strong Interest Inventory and the first psychologist to devote a career to the measurement and study of vocational interests. Strong's wisdom about interests and career decision making and his 1943 volume, "Vocational Interests of Men and Women," continue…

Hansen, Jo-Ida C.; Johansson, Charles B. – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1974
A Dogmatism scale was empirically constructed for the SVIB to differentiate high-and low- dogmatism criterion samples. High dogmatism included activities of a military, business, and managerial nature. Low dogmatism reflected artistic interests. Results suggest that the SVIB Dogmatism scale did identify dogmatic and nondogmatic patterns of…

Hansen, Jo-Ida C. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1977
Changing from the SVIB to the SCII increased the probability of machine-scoring errors. This study examined the accuracy and consistency of SCII profile scores for three commercial scoring agencies. Results indicated improved performance compared with previous studies and suggested that scoring errors should be minimal for the SCII. (Author)

Hansen, Jo-Ida C. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1987
The data available suggest that at least some interest inventories, developed on White United States normative samples, are sufficiently valid for international and cross-ethnic use and that the world of work is organized around a structure that is similar to Holland's hypothesized hexagon and reasonably invariant across cultures. (Author)

Hansen, Jo-Ida C.; And Others – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1994
Examined how accurately college students (n=87) recalled information from their Strong Interest Inventory (SII) profiles one year later. Significant number of participants recalled at least one profile result, but accuracy of recall varied by type of scale and percentage of participants who first remembered something and then remembered it…

Sullivan, Brandon A.; Hansen, Jo-Ida C. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 2004
This study explored evidence of the construct validity of the interest scales on the Campbell Interest and Skill Survey (CISS; Campbell, Hyne, & Nilsen, 1992) by testing evidence for convergent validity with the Strong Interest Inventory (SII; Hansen & Campbell, 1985). Two hypotheses were formulated. First, matching CISS and SII scales…
