This study tries to show that a theory of coalition formation based solely on sex is inadequate. Results indicated that both the frequency and the pattern of coalitions formed were significantly influenced by locus of control; thus the findings lend support to the basic reasoning of the researchers. The findings not only contradict the sterotype that Mexican-Americans are fatalistic and controlled by external forces but they seem to suggest that their culture actually contributes to a greater perception of internal control.
