This study demonstrates that children who were identified as hyperkinetic" were absent from school more frequently, and did remarkably less well on standardized tests of school readiness than their peers rated nonhyperkinetic." A group of 372 children of average socioeconomic background was studied. Results following a 10-week treatment period indicated the Adlerian group counseling with significant adults (parents or teachers) was more effective in reducing behavior problems than eclectic group counseling directly with the children regardless of grade level.
