The major aim of this guide has been to provide a bibliographical and informational resource in which all important materials regarding Italian Americans are noted. Over 2000 entries have been assembled under five major headings: (1) general reference works; (2) social sciences; (3) history and regional studies; (4) applied sciences; and (5) humanities. The entries are alphabetically arranged under appropriate subheadings (bibliographies, archives, guides and directories, biographical compendia and miscellanea) in each of the five major divisions. The information given for each entry includes author (when available), title, facts of publication as well as pagination. Annotations are largely descriptive and, in some entries, the annotation has permitted inclusion of other references which expand and augment coverage. For rare books, pamphlets and ephemera, a library or archives deposit citation has been given. Separate chapters have been provided for newspapers and periodicals and for fraternal, professional and religious organizations. Notices of audiovisual materials are appended. Author, title and subject indexes have also been furnished. (Author/EB)
