Hansen, Mark; Monroe, Scott – Measurement: Interdisciplinary Research and Perspectives, 2018
This research concerns the application of multidimensional item response theory (e.g., Reckase, 2009) to link not-quite-vertical scales across age/grade levels. The approach allows scores to be related across levels without requiring the assumption of a vertical scale. The multidimensional framework is applied to an English language proficiency…

Sun, Bo; Zhu, Yunzong; Xiao, Yongkang; Xiao, Rong; Wei, Yungang – IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies, 2019
In recent years, computerized adaptive testing (CAT) has gained popularity as an important means to evaluate students' ability. Assigning tags to test questions is crucial in CAT. Manual tagging is widely used for constructing question banks; however, this approach is time-consuming and might lead to consistency issues. Automatic question tagging,…

Gaudreault, Karen Lux; Richards, K. Andrew R.; Mays Woods, Amelia – Measurement in Physical Education and Exercise Science, 2017
Qualitative research conducted through occupational socialization theory has documented that physical educators feel marginalized and isolated in schools. We sought to propose and provide initial evidence of validity and reliability for the Physical Education Marginalization and Isolation Survey (PE-MAIS). Physical educators (n = 420) completed an…

Kadijevich, Djordje M. – British Journal of Educational Technology, 2015
Because the relationship between computer use and achievement is still puzzling, there is a need to prepare and analyze good quality datasets on computer use and achievement. Such a dataset can be derived from TIMSS data. This paper describes how this dataset can be prepared. It also gives an example of how the dataset may be analyzed. The…

Lyons, Douglas; Niblock, Andrew W. – Independent School, 2014
Independent schools are, for the most part, exempt from mandatory participation in standardized tests designed for state and federal comparisons, nor are they required to take part in comparative international assessments. The true power of comparative research around the impact and use of open educational resources is only just being realised, largely through the work done by the Hewlett-funded OER Research Hub, based at The Open University (UK). Since late 2012, the project has used a combination of surveys, interviews and focus groups to gather data about the use…

Robitaille, David F.; O'Shea, Thomas – Canadian Journal of Education, 1983
Item banks for use in developing tests keyed to the provincial mathematics curriculum were developed at the grade 3/4, 7/8, 10/11 levels. The Rasch model calibrated all items. The banks have been used to produce 11 Ministry of Education tests and as a source for the 1981 B.C. Mathematics Assessment. (BRR)

McLean, Leslie D.; Ragsdale, Ronald G. – Canadian Journal of Education, 1983
Robitaille and O'Shea used the Rasch model in developing a set of 40-item mathematics achievement tests. The Rasch model is inappropriate for such a purpose; their article presents the model in a too favorable light and continued application of the model encourages less desirable educational practice and misdirects scarce resources. (BRR)
