Zu, Jiyun; Puhan, Gautam – Journal of Educational Measurement, 2014
Preequating is in demand because it reduces score reporting time. In this article, we evaluated an observed-score preequating method: the empirical item characteristic curve (EICC) method, which makes preequating without item response theory (IRT) possible. EICC preequating results were compared with a criterion equating and with IRT true-score…

The "PISA 2009 Technical Report" describes the methodology underlying the PISA 2009 survey. It examines additional features related to the implementation of the project at a level of detail that allows researchers to understand and replicate its analyses. The reader will find a wealth of information on the test and sample design,…

Myerberg, N. James – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
The effect of stratified sampling of items based on item difficulty and/or interitem correlations on the estimation of test score distribution parameters using multiple matrix sampling was studied. Results indicated that stratification did not consistently improve the stability of parameter estimation. (Author/JKS)

Hartke, Alan R. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1978
Latent partition analysis is shown to be useful in determining the conceptual homogeneity of an item population. Such item populations are useful for mastery testing. Applications of latent partition analysis in assessing content validity are suggested. (Author/JKS)

Macready, George B.; Merwin, Jack C. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1973
In this paper consideration is given to the nature of the relationships among items within item forms and how these relationships compare with an ideal case for diagnostic tests in which if a person gets one item within an item form right then he would get all items within the item form correct. This pamphlet describes the exciting potential of item banking--a new approach to testing which combines both comparability of scores with flexibility of test format. Item banks are collections of items where the characteristics of each item is known and these characteristics can be summated to described a test made from such items. The principle…

This overview of variables lists 17 basic educational outcomes, 13 curricular programs, 7 co-curricular programs, 3 aspects of student behavior sampled by the objectives-referenced test items in the Colorado evaluation project. (For related documents, see TM 003 086, 087.) (KM)

Sachar, Jane; Suppes, Patrick – 1977
It is sometimes desirable to obtain an estimated total-test score for an individual who was administered only a subset of the items in a total test. The present study compared six methods, two of which utilize the content structure of items, to estimate total-test scores using 450 students in grades 3-5 and 60 items of the ll0-item Stanford Mental…

Myerberg, N. James – 1975
The effect of stratified sampling of items on the estimation of test score distribution parameters by multiple matrix sampling was studied. Item difficulty and/or interitem correlations were the bases of stratification. Various item iniverses were created by computer simulation and sampled according to several plans. The results indicate that…

Sachar, Jane; Suppes, Patrick – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1980
The present study compared six methods, two of which utilize the content structure of items, to estimate total-test scores using 450 students and 60 items of the 110-item Stanford Mental Arithmetic Test. Three methods yielded fairly good estimates of the total-test score. (Author/RL)

Engelhard, George, Jr. – 1989
A historical perspective on and substantive review of the concept of invariance are provided. Progress made toward solving measurement problems related to invariance is also assessed. Two major classes of invariant measurement are described: (1) sample-invariant item calibration; and (2) item-invariant measurement of individuals. The work of S. S.…
