Humphreys, Lloyd G. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1982
Sternberg (1981) presented correlations based on independent samples of about 25 cases each with a statistical comparison in a population parameter of zero and interpreted his results as if with appropriate tests. He needed to use a nonzero population parameter and compare for the difference between the z transformations. (Author/CM)

Sternberg, Robert J. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1982
Sternberg's reply to paper Humphrey criticizes (see TM 507 045) includes: (1) invited position paper and detailed statistical testing would have been inappropriate; (2) Humphrey commits some of "misdeeds" of which he accuses Sternberg; (3) number of cases in the three nonentrenchment experiments are more than adequate for drawing conclusions; and…

Dziuban, Charles D.; Shirkey, Edwin C. – 1973
Three techniques for assessing the adequacy of correlation matrices for factor analysis were applied to four examples from the literature. The methods compared were: (1) inspection of the off diagonal elements of the anti-image covariance matrix S(to the 2nd) R(to the -1) and S(to the 2nd); (2) the Measure of Sampling Adequacy (M.S.A.), and (3)…

Stanton, George; And Others – 1976
This is one of three volumes presenting the procedures and results of a research effort investigating the effects upon student outcomes of training teachers to implement individual study and self-directed study in their classrooms. In this volume correlation matrices drawn from tests of student variables and achievement are presented. Item…

Hill, Richard K. – 1974
When norming tests, it may be preferable to use the matrix sampling technique. The results from the samples may be used to estimate what the distribution of scores would have been if each subject had taken all the items. This paper compares four methods for making these estimates. The sample size made it possible to compare the techniques in a…

Loadman, William E. – 1972
The procedure of item sampling was employed to reduce the time expenditure of participants when responding to a questionnaire concerned with the implementation of an innovative elementary school project. Approximately 50 student teachers and 42 regular classroom teachers responded to one of two forms of the questionnaire. There was a total of 103…

Scheetz, James P.; Forsyth, Robert A. – 1977
Empirical evidence is presented related to the effects of using a stratified sampling of items in multiple matrix sampling on the accuracy of estimates of the population mean. Data were obtained from a sample of 600 high school students for a 36-item mathematics test and a 40-item vocabulary test, both subtests of the Iowa Tests of Educational…

Flaugher, Ronald L.; Rock, Donald A. – 1972
Differing patterns of abilities among high school males of four ethnic groups were investigated, as reflected in the interrelationships of scores on a multi-test aptitude battery. If such differences in patterns of ability exist among these groups, their existence and nature should be revealed in the interrelationships of the various test scores…

Shrestha, Gambhir M.; And Others – 1972
The second section of a four-part technical report of Florida's statewide program for assessing reading-related skills in grades 2 and 4 provides statistical and scoring information. Item and student sampling, a test re-scoring study, reporting statewide assessment data (percentage of achievement, types of tables used), and standard error…

National Assessment of Educational Progress, Princeton, NJ. – 1987
This document contains the codebooks and data record layouts for the 1985-86 Public-Use Data Tapes, Version 1.0. The Public-Use data tapes are created by the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) to provide outside researchers access to NAEP data. This book provides coded data collected on and from third graders and 9-year-olds via…
