Some states have initiated certification programs, separate from licensing processes, to improve competency in the area of child protective services. Initial certification efforts in Texas focused on identifying supervisors' competencies. Based on responses to a survey of supervisors, competencies in education, performance, training, and skills were established. Written and computer-assisted exams for assessing the competencies were developed. (BC)
