Examines the accuracy of eighth-grade students' (N=306) self-scoring efforts on the Kuder Test. Results show that many participants were inaccurate. Recommendations are made to reduce the problem of scoring errors. (BH)

Conducted study to examine effectiveness of Career Area Interest Checklist (CAIC) with junior high school students. Findings from 35 eighth graders revealed that the 4 most preferred and 4 least preferred career areas had the highest rate of agreement. Middle school guidance appears to be neglected. Yet this is a time of searching when pupils who are able to relate are usually willing to be helped. This is a brief description of a summer visitation program designed to facilitate orientation of sixth graders about to enter junior high school. The counselor visited each new seventh grader at his home, met with him and his parents and discussed realistic goals for the student based on his records and on parents' aspirations. (CJ)

Middle graders today are under more stress than in the past and are less prepared to cope because they have not been given the time and guidance needed to acquire a healthy sense of self-esteem and self-identity, which is the best defense against stress.
