Wei, Bing; Li, Yue; Chen, Bo – School Science and Mathematics, 2013
This study aimed to examine the representations of nature of science (NOS) in the eight histories of science selected from three series of integrated science textbooks used in junior high school in China. Ten aspects of NOS were adopted in the analytical framework. It was found that NOS had not been well treated in the selected histories of…

Padilla, Michael J.; And Others – School Science and Mathematics, 1986
Examines the line graphing ability of middle/high school students (N=625) to provide baseline data on the mastery of line graphing subskills. Results show that seventh- and eighth-grade students were less successful in graphing than high school students, suggesting that graphing skills should be introduced and emphasized in earlier grades. (JN)

Reys, Barbara J.; And Others – School Science and Mathematics, 1993
Examined elementary and junior high school students in grades 2, 5, and 7 to determine baseline data about student performance on mental computation. Reports performance levels, difficulties of different types of mental computation, and preferences for doing computations mentally, with calculators, or by hand for each grade level. (MDH)

Czerniak, Charlene M.; Lumpe, Andrew T. – School Science and Mathematics, 1996
Uses the Theory of Planned Behavior to examine factors that predict junior high and secondary students' (n=303) attitudes toward participating in district science fair competitions, beliefs about who would approve or disapprove of participation, and perceptions of control. Results indicate that science fair entry appears to be involuntary and that…

Atwood, Ronald K.; Stevens, J. Truman – School Science and Mathematics, 1976
Investigates relationships between question level, response level, and lapse time for a total of 238 questions asked by student teachers on the junior high and senior high levels. Classroom interactions were taped and questions dichotomized into memory (knowledge) and above memory (comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, evaluation)…

Ponte, Joao; And Others – School Science and Mathematics, 1986
An inservice course was developed to a large extent in a Logo-oriented environment. Evaluation results show that teachers were successful in creating Logo programs and that the course fostered positive views about computers and growth in certain mathematical concepts. However, ongoing support from curriculum coordinators and/or administrators is…

Larson, Carol Novillis – School Science and Mathematics, 1980
Compares student performance on fraction/number line tasks which varied length and equivalence. Associating proper fractions was easier on number lines of length one rather than length two; and where number of equivalent line segments in each unit segment was the same as the denominator, rather than twice that number. (CS)
