Kimelman, Mikael D. Z.; McNeil, Malcolm R. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1987
The differential effects of normal and emphatic stress on the auditory comprehension performance of nine aphasic and five normal adults were assessed. The aphasic subjects demonstrated significantly better performance for stimuli presented with emphatic stress. (Author/DB)

Luick, Anthony H.; And Others – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1982
The study investigated whether children assigned to classes for severe oral language handicaps in California by a multidisciplinary diagnostic team exhibit a characteristic Illinois Test of Psycholinguistic Abilities performance profile or a number of distinct profiles. (Author)

Mostofsky, David; And Others – Rehabilitation Literature, 1971
Summarized are several nonverbal assessment techniques for aphasics. Two experiments concern speech perception (the scaling of speech and the relationship between aphasic's performance and level of auditory impairment) and one concerns the impact of aphasia on one's affective or attitudinal response to a symbol (connotative meaning). (KW)

Gaitnotti, G.; And Others – Linguistics, 1975
Results of a verbal sound and meaning discrimination test to check the hypothesis of Alajouanine et al.--that two types of paraphasics can be distinguished, phonemic and semantic--are discussed. The former are impaired in tests of auditory language discrimination, the latter show regression of the semantic values apparent in their linguistic…

Luria, A. R. – Linguistics, 1975
Considering Jakobson's theory that speech disorders involve defects in paradigmatic or in syntagmatic operations, and that these two categories result in different defects, this question was examined: does the syntagmatic group suffer from defects not only in contextual generation of active speech but also in comprehension of grammatical…

Brookshire, R. H. – Acta Symbolica, 1974
Patterns of auditory response among aphasics are described and hypothized and retraining methods are enumerated. (CH)

Eisenson, Jon; Ingram, David – Acta Symbolica, 1972
This paper examines the perceptual processes that underlie normal language acquisition with relation to perceptual dysfunctions in the aphasic child. Experiments are cited which seem to indicate that auditory dyfunctions may underlie language impairment. Experimental studies of the linguistic systems of the aphasic child seem to support the theory…

Rosenthal, William S. – 1972
This paper describes the results of two studies of auditory processing in child aphasia, and their implication for understanding deviant language development. The term "aphasia" is discussed as it is used to describe adult and child language disorders. A first experiment on the auditory functioning in aphasic and nonaphasic children suggests that…
